Future leaders are taking shape in the classrooms at Dresden Elementary,
thanks to a year-long grant from a national foundation to promote the "Leader in
Me" program among its students.
The program, developed by organizational consultant Stephen Covey, helps
develop the essential life skills and characteristics students need in order to
succeed as leaders.
"A common belief among all staff is that every child embodies greatness, and
being able to inspire their potential empowers them to become leaders and will,
in turn, make them successful in life," said Principal Jami Wood. "We are beyond
excited to embark on this journey!"
The grant from the I Am A Leader Foundation provided five full days of
professional development this summer plus student and parent resources, access
to website resources, and a coach for the years leading up to earning the
Lighthouse status.
The first phase includes transforming the environment-grounds totally
landscaped by an action team of teachers-new artwork in building using the
Leader in Me language and vocabulary.
